Memories of Formby Beach

We all at some time have experienced flashbacks or a memory from childhood. From time to time, I would have a flashback of a beautiful beach I visited as a child. I remember the beach quite vividly but could not remember were it was. My sister and I were taken there with a group of other children by the daycare/child minder when we were children. The answer came to my recurring flashback when my boyf decided on the spare of the moment that we should go and cool off at the beach from the tropical conditions whilst watching the sunset. It sounded so romantic and he had been talking about this beach forever as his work colleague had recommended it. It took about an hour to drive there even with all the misdirections given by Irish Shaun ( the voice of the sat nav).

When we arrived we we greeted by masses of grassy land which would not look out of place in Ghana as my brother had commented. As we made our way through the fields we came to sand dunes which led to the beach. It was about 10minute walk from the car but I could not believe the site before my eyes when we arrived on the beach. It was stunning, just vast, long open beach. It was so big that the other people looked like dots (although there was not that many as eve). The sea goes far out towards the horizon which makes the beach so vast. I remembered that this was the beautiful beach that I visited as a child, Formby Beach. We spent an hour strolling while jumping puddles and collecting shells. We didn't even realize an hour had passed as we were enjoying the time there so much. It is so free and gives you the feeling that you are on your own island as it is quite secluded. This was the same beach that the artist Antony Gormley had the 'Another Place' exhibition where 100 cast iron figures were installed in the sand facing towards the sea a few years ago. I can't wait to go back!
